#3 - EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)
What is it?
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques—often called “Tapping”—is a simple but powerful tool for managing emotions. It involves gently tapping on specific points on your face, hands, and body while focusing on thoughts or feelings that are bothering you. This helps calm the nervous system and release emotional stress. Think of it like emotional acupressure—it’s easy to learn and can be used anytime, anywhere!
How I Discovered It
I came across EFT while doing inner child work and decided to try it. At first, it seemed a little strange—tapping on my face to feel better? But since I was working through deep emotional wounds, I was open to anything that might help. And I’m so glad I gave it a chance!
My Experience Using EFT
At first, I only used tapping when I was alone or with people who understood what I was doing. It felt a little strange—tapping on my face and body while acknowledging my emotions—but I was willing to try anything to help me process what I was feeling.
One time, I felt an overwhelming sense of rejection after someone I deeply cared about ignored my message. My mind spiraled: Did I do something wrong? Do they not care about me? The emotions hit hard—sadness, insecurity, even anger.
Instead of pushing those feelings away, I sat down, closed my eyes, and started tapping through the points. I said exactly what I was feeling:
"Even though I feel rejected and unimportant, I deeply and completely accept myself."
"Even though I’m hurt that they didn’t respond, I choose to release this pain."
At first, the emotions got even stronger. But I kept going. I kept tapping, breathing, and allowing myself to feel without judgment. Then, something shifted. The tightness in my chest eased. The heavy sadness lightened. By the end of the session, I could see the situation more clearly—without the emotional charge. It wasn’t personal. My worth wasn’t tied to someone else’s response.
That experience showed me how powerful EFT could be. It helped me move through emotions without getting stuck in them.
Now, tapping is a natural part of my life. In the mornings, I do a simple tapping practice to set the tone for the day. I use positive affirmations like "Today is a great day," "I am calm and confident," or "I welcome joy and ease." My son enjoys following along with the process, tapping with me as we start our day with good energy.
EFT has taught me that emotions aren’t the enemy. They just need to be seen, felt, and processed—and tapping is another powerful tool that helps me do exactly that.
Why I Like EFT
The best thing about EFT is how fast it works. When I feel overwhelmed, just a few minutes of tapping helps me calm down. It’s like a reset button for my emotions! The gentle tapping soothes my nervous system, making it easier to let go of stress and feel more at peace.
How I Use EFT Today
EFT is still part of my life. I use it when I feel anxious or emotionally stuck. But my favorite way to use it now is with my 5-year-old son! Sometimes, during breakfast, we do a quick tapping routine together. It’s a fun and simple way to help him learn how to manage his feelings.
How You Can Try EFT
Learn the Basics
Identify something that’s bothering you (stress, fear, frustration, etc.).
Tap on key points: top of the head, eyebrows, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, under the arm, and hands.
As you tap, acknowledge your feelings. Example:
“Even though I feel stressed right now, I deeply and completely accept myself.”Use EFT When You Feel Overwhelmed
If you’re feeling anxious, upset, or stuck in negative thoughts, take a few minutes to tap through the points.
Pay attention to how you feel before and after—you might notice an immediate shift!
Make It a Fun Habit (Even with Kids!)
You can do EFT anytime—morning, before bed, or whenever you need a quick reset.
If you have kids, try tapping together! It’s a great way to help them learn emotional awareness and self-soothing.
